I've heard a few people ask how they can help Kim Mayhew - to help create an easy place to direct everyone to, we created this page.
For those who haven't heard, our mom's home was devastated by the recent hurricane, leaving her temporarily displaced and in need of repairing significant damage to her home. (Huge, huge thanks to Jeff and Pam King for their generous hospitality!!!) She lost her car, all large appliances (water heater, washer, dryer, oven/fridge/dishwasher, etc.), and she will need to have the bottom four feet of her walls removed and replaced, alongside all of her lower cabinets. She's working with FEMA and she has insurance, but the deductible for the house itself is $10,000 and the deductible for items inside the house is another $10,000.
Anyone who has met her knows that she's the first to jump in and help, so it's been heartbreaking to watch this unfold from many miles away. Among the things that she's throwing in the trash this week are several mementos from our childhood and cherished items from her own. (On a humorous note, she didn't sound sorry to have an excuse to toss the many discarded art projects that were left behind a decade ago!) There will be no way to replace the items that she's lost, but hopefully, we can lessen the financial burden that was left behind.
We are starting this GoFundMe campaign to help her rebuild and recover. All funds will go directly towards the two deductibles.
Thank you for anything that you can do to show our mom the love and support she deserves during this difficult time. There is nobody more deserving of your kindness and generosity.
With love and gratitude,
Bridgette Dennett and Hannah Vidovic
