Hi, my name is Kim Yancey. I’ve always prioritized my health and well-being, so hearing the words “Stage 3 localized rectal cancer” was truly life-altering—especially knowing the mass is pressing against my uterus.

It’s been a long journey of doctor’s appointments, tests, and stressful weeks waiting for results. But through it all, I’ve finally found a wonderful care team at Todd’s Cancer Society who are guiding me every step of the way.

Although I initially hoped to avoid chemo, my symptoms and care team have shown me that chemotherapy and radiation—starting May 16—are the best route to healing and relief. Having your mortality look you in the face is quite a feeling. Alongside treatment, I’ll also be following a holistic diet and practicing mind-body wellness and modalities to support my journey.

This experience has opened my heart and allowed me to see, through gratitude, the gift within this cancer diagnosis. I believe this challenge is part of my path—a calling to learn, grow, and, in time, help others through their own healing journeys. By telling my story—honestly and vulnerably—I not only help myself heal, but I also hope to inspire others to embrace their own paths. I know there is a gift in all of this, and I want to make sure I walk this journey with openness and authenticity. I am also planning to create a private Facebook group to share updates and be a space for connection and healing so please reach out if you are interested.

Medical expenses from hospital stays and upcoming treatments have added up quickly. Any support—no matter the size—means the world to me. My daughter Alyssa has been my rock through all of this, and I’m so grateful for her love and support.

The doctors are optimistic and say this is curable. It’s only up from here—I’ve got this.
