When I think of someone who is loving, kind, and strong, I think of my friend Kim. Over the last two years she has been fighting for her life due to complications from what was supposed to be straightforward surgery. As a result, she has almost lost her life multiple times. Yet, she continues to fight every day for her family, friends, and her community.
Kim was diagnosed with severe lymphedema about a year after her surgery. As a healthcare professional, I saw my friend experience some of the worst symptoms imaginable from this disease process. Kim has experienced chronic pain, severe weakness, and malnutrition. Even on the days when I know Kim feels her worst, I watch her put a smile on to be there for her children.
Due to her failing health, she has lost the career that she has built over decades of hard work. Being the fighter that she is, she has suffered financially in silence. She has done everything she can to support herself, her children, and her grandchildren. Even when Kim has had nothing to give, she has taken in loved ones who have even less.
Kim has tried desperately to do everything she can to help herself, but the financial stress of supporting herself and her family has worsened her health. She has applied for state disability services but financial assistance will take several months to process.
We are raising funds with the goal of $25 thousand dollars to help Kim and her family. The money raised will go to her housing needs. Her current rent payment is $3995 per month. In the last month she has been given notice that her electricity is at risk for being turned off. This week she received her final eviction notice. Without help, Kim and her family will be evicted from their home in less than two weeks.
We urgently ask for any contribution that you can give this wonderful woman and her family. If not just to provide financial support, but to let Kim know that she is loved and cared for by the community that she is a part of.
