Support Kim's Cancer Journey: Help Steve and Kim

Hello, my name is Laurie Tornga. I am setting up this GoFundMe account for my Uncle and Aunt, Steve and Kim Norman, to help them as they face upcoming financial challenges in Kim's cancer journey. Below is a message from Steve:

Hi All,

As you know, my wife Kim retired last June 30th. We had all kinds of plans in place and our mortality was not on the top of the list. We had not accessed life insurance as the insurance she had at work had expired. (We failed to do the same for me as well). We do not have any pre-paid funeral plans or burial sites.

As you also know, Kim was diagnosed with stage four metastasized lung cancer that is throughout her body less than two months after retiring. Recently, lesions were also found in her brain. As we move into Hospice care and determine the cost of a Hospice house if needed, and the food and lodging costs per day not covered by insurance (she needs extensive care not given in home through Hospice) as well as the future cost for a funeral, burial etc. we are overwhelmed. When that time should arrive, we realized we may need some financial help. When I lose my friend, I want to provide her with a dignified end of life as she wishes it to be. Afterwards, I will be down to 1 social security check and 1 pension check, which amounts to at least half, if not less than half our current income. As it is, I may have to return to work, at the age of 69, for a couple of more years. The hope is that I can hold off long enough, maybe throughout the summer, to find a job that utilizes my experience and years in education.
