Hello, we are asking for help on behalf of our mother, Kimberly Smith.
Our mom is a devoted middle school teacher who has poured her heart into her students for years. She loves teaching science, supporting math/reading intervention, and serving as a curriculum lead teacher. As a single mom, she worked tirelessly to build the career she dreamed of while raising my brothers and me. Teaching was never just a job to her; it was her calling.
Tragically, our mother was attacked by students at school which resulted in serious and lasting injuries. She now lives with carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, trigger thumb, spinal compression, and two bulging discs. Doctors have warned that without surgery soon; she is at certain risk of paralysis. One surgeon has described her case as rare and complex, and she is now being referred to a highly specialized surgeon and medical team. She has a long and difficult road ahead filled with surgeries, recovery, and healing.
Because of these injuries and the severe pain, she is in she has been doctor-ordered to not return to work for the foreseeable future. What makes this even more devastating is that workers’ compensation has denied her care in bad faith. This means she is not receiving income, and her medical bills are not being covered. Despite everything, she is still a strong single mom to my 15-year-old brother who lives at home.
My mom doesn't like to be vulnerable or ask for help. She has carried the weight of life on her shoulders for so long, often without support. But right now, she truly needs help. Between medical bills, her mortgage, electricity, and basic living expenses, she is overwhelmed under the financial stress while also enduring constant pain.
Even during the attacks, her heart for her students never wavered. That is who she is, a woman with a big heart who always puts others first.
As her daughter, it breaks my heart to see her this weak and in so much pain. I have never seen her struggle like this. Our children are watching their granny suffer, and we are all scared for her.
We are grateful for your prayers, love, and support. We know we are surrounded by many friends that care deeply. Thank for all the prayers. If you feel led, any contribution toward her medical bills and basic living expenses during this incredibly difficult time would mean a great deal and means more than we can express.
Kimberly is a woman of courage, faith, and love. Right now, she needs help carrying this burden. We are deeply grateful for you taking the time to read, pray, share, and support our family.
