Hello Everyone,

I'm raising money for Kim Kirvie Mapaye (Combat Veteran and Purple Heart recipient) and my best friend. He had to have emergency surgery on June 3, 2024, on his head due to a serious infection at the same site where he was injured during our combat deployment to Afghanistan in 2017.

On November 13, 2017, while on a combat deployment with the 82nd Airborne Division, during a route reconnaissance mission, Mapaye was the driver of a vehicle that was struck by a 500lb vehicle-borne IED. Miraculously, Mapaye and the rest of the crew survived, but not without severe injuries. Mapaye, along with our LT, was immediately evacuated and sent back stateside. This was the start of his recovery journey, which had been amazing until the most recent emergency surgery.

Mapaye awoke from his most recent emergency surgery without his cranial plate, leaving his precious brain unprotected. He also suffered from aphasia, apraxia (inability to speak), along with other complications. With his brain unprotected and his inability to speak, he has been unable to work or live a normal life, while his bills have begun to pile up.

On October 28, 2024, nearly 7 years from Mapaye's initial combat injuries, he had his follow-up surgery to replace his cranial plate. As he begins his new road to recovery and without the support he once had while in the Army, it is my hope that the funds donated will help him with bills, food, and other costs not covered by the VA.
