For those of you who know my best friend Kim, she is a tenacious fighter who never backs down from a challenge. One of her most beloved quotes when facing adversity is, “Never tell me the odds.” Many of you may recall that Kim originally came down with COVID in August of 2020 and then got COVID a second time in January of 2021.
The damage caused by this was severe and debilitating. The long COVID that she is suffering through has left her with two separate traumatic brain injuries. She has lost volume in all of her major brain lobes, leaving her unable to read more than a paragraph at most. She cannot process much, which makes conversations or doctor visits hard and exhausting. She took a leave of absence from work in 2020 and has not been able to return.
Kim continues to face adversity, and she recovers from long COVID. She has now been suffering from the effects of COVID-19 for over two years. This has been the biggest fight of her life as she struggles physically, emotionally, and financially. Very few people know the extent of the damage this virus has done as it attacked her body. Simple things like reading, standing at the kitchen counter, or walking across the room must be carefully considered so that she can conserve every ounce of her energy for healing.
Her treatments and regimens that keep her functioning are expensive and extensive. Her sister is working to attack this on all fronts. There is still so much that is unknown about the extensive damage on her body or how to fix it.
For all of the uncertainty of what the road ahead will bring, one thing that I would like to do to help her is to alleviate her financial insecurity. Because the pandemic is “over” for most, financial assistance programs are no longer available to her.
COVID is NOT over for Kim. She needs our help and assistance.
Any funds you can provide will go towards immediate assistance with medical visit co-payments, outstanding medical bills, weekly rehabilitation and outpatient treatment, necessary medicine and supplements, groceries, help around the house…just to get started.
Please consider contributing to support Kim and help her heal. She could use each of us lifting her and supporting her through this long recovery process.
If you cannot contribute at this time, please lift her in your thoughts and prayers. I know many of you may want to reach out to her; please be patient with her responses, as she is conserving her energy for rest and healing. If you would like to reach out to her sister with questions about Kim or her treatments, please get in touch with Stephanie at [email redacted]
