Kim Brown is a dedicated teacher and a single mother who has spent years supporting her students and her family in Los Alamos, NM. As her colleague and friend at the high school, I have seen firsthand the passion and care she brings to her classroom, as well as the challenges she faces as the sole provider for her two children—a teenager and a younger elementary-aged student.

Recently, Kim received the difficult news that her teaching contract would not be renewed for the upcoming school year. She is working hard to find another position within the district and her willingness to take on odd jobs, the uncertainty of her employment situation has taken a toll on her well-being. She is doing everything she can to prepare for the possibility of unemployment, but the road ahead is daunting.
