Dear Friends:
My name is Kim Adele Hastert and I'm reaching our during the most difficult time of my life. On July 15, 2025, suffered a catastrophic medical emergency. An undiagnosed H.pylori infection caused a stomach ulcer to rupture. During a helicopter transfer to a hospital in Tucson, I coded-my heart stopped, and I lost oxygen to my brain. Though the medical team saved my life I was left with brain dizziness and a condition called Mal de Debarqueme (MdDS). It feels like I'm on a moving ship 24/7, making even the simplest tasks overwhelming - and I'm considered a fall risk, unable to safely return to work.
Over the past 13 months, I've been under the care of multiple specialists: my primary care doc tor, gastroenterologist, cardiologist, ENT, nephrologist, neurologist, oncologist and physical therapist. I've had numerous procedures, including a hernia repair, kidney biopsy, and colonoscopy. I attend physical therapy twice a week and follow a strict regimen of home exercises. Despite my best efforts, I've now reached a financial breaking point. I have no income, my Social Security Disability claim was denied and I'[m in the lengthy appeal process. I've already drained my 401(k) and received all the assistance available from local agencies, which are limited to once per year. Two promising treatments have been
recommended, but I can't afford them:
- A neurological evaluation ($125)
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy ($250 for the initial visit, $200 per follow-up
These treatments offer hope for improving my condition, healing my brain, and allowing me to return to work and regain my independence. I've also appealed to Walmart for long-term disability benefits but those may not begin until January 2026 - if approved. Right now, I urgently need help to cover basic living expenses and pursue the treatments that could give me my life back. If you're able to contribute, any amount would be deeply appreciated. If you can't give, please consider sharing this with others who might.
With love, gratitude, and hope,
Kim Adele Hastert
God-loving, golf-loving and determined to heal
