We chose Killingly for its beauty, open space, fresh air, and peaceful surroundings. Today, those qualities are at risk. A 1.3 million-square-foot mega-warehouse is proposed for 228 Westcott Road.

Our citizen group is actively contesting this development because the applicant has failed to meet its legal burden of proof under the Connecticut Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Act and Killingly regulations.

Specifically, this development brings:

Threats to Our Water: The developer's software modeling contains incorrect baseline inputs, creating an unmitigated risk of downstream scouring, bank destabilization, and altered wetland hydrology. Complete engineering construction drawings and stability details for massive retaining walls adjacent to regulated areas remain entirely missing from the record.

Pollution & Gridlock: Hundreds of daily diesel truck trips will introduce constant noise and air pollution to local neighborhoods. This 24/7 commercial traffic utilizes Westcott Road and the I-395 on-ramp, intersecting critical response routes used by KB Ambulance, State Police Troop D, and the South Killingly Fire Department. The added traffic volume impacts an intersection with existing high accident rates, presenting safety hazards for daily commuters and school buses.

Environmental Destruction: Clear-cutting and bedrock blasting layouts fail to meet the minimum standards required by the 2002 Connecticut Guidelines for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control.
