Hi! My name is Kiki, I’m 23 and a patient care
specialist in Los Angeles. I have always been extremely hesitant to ask for help from people, but this entire situation has completely left me with no other options as I do not have any financial assistance from my parents, and will have to miss work for this surgery and recovery. This puts me in a very tough financial situation as I live paycheck to paycheck, and have other urgent bills I am obligated to pay on top of this medical situation.
March 5th I noticed a tingling sensation in my hand which quickly spread throughout my arm while at work, the same thing happened the next day. Since this day I have had a decrease of mobility in my right (dominant) hand, and frequent pain/numbness that shoots through my arm.
I noticed a lump on my wrist which led me to believe this was a cyst. I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for the following Monday the 9th where she sent me to get imaging done on the 13th, showing I indeed have a calcified ganglion cyst. This requires a surgical removal.
Upon meeting with the surgeon on April 6th she informed me that this cyst is causing ulnar nerve symptoms, and compression within the Guyon’s canal.
What went from a simple cyst aspiration is now a surgical procedure consisting of Guyon’s canal release with excision of the cyst.
The surgeon sent me to get an MRI and with insurance alone is going to cost $1031, this doesn’t even include the cost of surgery or anesthesia.
While I have the MRI cost I am unsure of the exact patient responsibility for the actual procedure. Any funds go immediately to all medical billing and bills that need to be paid with the loss of income during operation and recovery. The surgeon told me to take a week minimum off of work to rest my arm, especially since my work ability will be limited as this is a procedure on my dominant hand.
Thank you for taking time to read through this, and while I definitely do not expect a lot anything helps! If you are not in the financial situation to donate anything I deeply appreciate any shares of this.
Thank you!
Kiki
