Kiki (AKA Kiki-UMA or Kiki-CR) is a prolific Japanese artist best-known for her original world of Tsukurikake（つくりかけ/月理欠）, co-authoring the world and lore of Vilous/Sergals, and the LAZY LOAF icon series.
Kiki has led an intense, life-long struggle against treatment-resistant depression and other health problems for over 30 years. She has tried over 10 medications, along with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment, all of which have offered little relief. Today, Kiki continues seeking other options such as informal genetic testing, but still suffers greatly with suicidal ideation, and struggles to see a clear path forward as she navigates the Japanese healthcare system.
Recently, Kiki has begun considering medical assistance in death (MAID), AKA physician-assisted death, or "death with dignity" as a means of ending her suffering.
In Kiki's own words:
" 私は幼少期から希死念慮やさまざまな障害に悩まされています。私はすでにTMS治療で50万円ほど投じていますが、効果がありませんでした。また、約十年年の治療で十種類以上の薬を試していますが、それも効果がありません。現在、非公式な遺伝子検査をしており、その結果問題が見つかったら葉酸を試すつもりです。とにかく回復するために何でも試す必要があるのです。そして、それらがうまくいかなかった場合、それは私の安楽死の根拠になると思います。"
Recalling a friend of mine who also struggled with treatment-resistant depression in the past, I suggested clinical ketamine therapy. Thankfully, a clinic exists in Japan, and Kiki agreed to try this new treatment with some help fundraising.
Kiki has already been seen for the initial consultation/examination for a cost of 11000 yen (75 USD). The treatments are a minimum of 55000 yen each (374 USD). The idea as of now (10/8/2025) is for Kiki to undergo three treatments over a period of three weeks, for a total of roughly 176000 yen (1197 USD).

Depending on the success of the treatment, Kiki's attitude toward treatment, and the doctor's opinion, the goal may be subject to change. For instance if it is decided that Kiki would like to try intramuscular injection therapy instead of IV drip, if a private room is deemed necessary, or if she wants to try additional treatments after the first three.
