We are asking our community to stand with Kierra and her family who have been fighting to reunite with their children after being wrongfully accused of harming their infant son.

On Thanksgiving Day 2024, Kierra and her family took her 6-week-old baby to the ER for a second opinion to make sure he was receiving the best possible care. Instead of care and compassion, she was met with suspicion. A doctor and hospital child "protection" nurse reported them to DCF without exploring other medical explanations.

Since then, multiple medical experts have reviewed their baby’s records and imaging, and confirmed what these parents have known all along: their son was not abused. Evidence shows that his symptoms could have stemmed from an underlying medical condition, handling by medical staff during his traumatic birth, or even from being a carrier of Pyle’s disease: a rare genetic disorder that can affect bone development even in carriers.

Despite this evidence, DCF and associated agencies are pushing for an expedited termination of parental rights and trying to force a family adoption of their 3-year-old daughter and now 1-year-old son. Both children have been kept from their parents for nearly a year, even though their daughter has never had any injuries and both children experienced neglect in the foster system: losing weight, suffering bug bites, and having visits with their parents repeatedly canceled.

This has been a devastating and exhausting fight, emotionally and financially. Kierra is working tirelessly to bring her children home, but the mounting legal and medical costs have put her in crisis.
