Support Kiddos Coffee
Hello! My name is Mrs. Jimenez. I am an elementary special education teacher in Colorado. I work with students in grades K-5, with and without IEPs, as an interventionist focused on literacy. I strive to provide my students with meaningful, real-life educational experiences that will support them in becoming active, contributing members of their community. This year, I sparked the idea of creating a student-led business on campus with my five 5th grade students. After wonderful collaboration of ideas, we decided that we would like to start a coffee cart business on campus. In my students' words, "We would like to start a coffee business to help teachers- especially on Mondays." I have worked with my kiddos on developing a solid business plan, including a cost-analysis budget which they fully researched and created themselves. Over the course of the year, this student-led business will provide my students with a meaningful way to connect their in-class learning to real life skills, such as "... learning to make wise choices with money..." and "increasing our writing skills". I plan on incorporating both the mathematical skills and literacy skills learned in class and in intervention to support my students' generalization and actualization of skills. We are so grateful for the opportunity to connect with our school and community through this project. Thank you for your consideration.
