Support Kia’ikai-A Young Scholar Athlete’s Volleyball Future

Aloha friends, family, supporter, and anyone with a heart to invest in the next generation.

Kiaʻikai is currently the starting setter for the 16U Kahua Athletics volleyball team based in Puna. Though his volleyball journey only began in 2022, he’s already played for two club teams and recently completed his first high school season at Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi. He’s shown incredible growth, resilience, and heart for the game in just a short time — and his love for volleyball continues to grow with every opportunity he gets to compete and learn.

Right now, we’re seeking help to cover travel costs for an upcoming tournament on Oʻahu, July 23–26, called the 5-0 Tournament. The total travel cost $550, and this is a last-minute opportunity that the coaches and club jumped at to expose these young men to high-level, competitive play. Dad has paid, outside the financial support he already gives, for his outgoing flight. The team is new, and theres only one fundraising chance before the event.

There is also projected continent travel for a tournament in Arizona in November. Estimated cost is 1100.00.

We’re also hoping to raise additional funds for future travel tournaments, so Kiaʻikai can continue to grow and compete throughout the season. Your help means he doesn’t miss out due to financial barriers.

A little more about Kiaʻikai:
• He’s the oldest of 4 keiki in our ʻohana.
• He recently recovered from an ACL replacement and meniscus repair 01 July 2024, and amazed us all by returning to the court in just 9 months through sheer dedication to physical therapy.
• He’s a scholar-athlete, finishing his freshman year at Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi with a GPA over 3.3 each quarter.
• And perhaps most importantly: he loves this sport. As a parent who always imagined him on the football field, it’s been incredible watching him light up as a volleyball player and teammate.

Our family is doing our best: I’m a public school educator, my partner has returned to college to build a better future for us, and Kiaʻikai’s dad supports him from Florida. But on a single income on Hawaii, just for right now, we can’t cover travel expenses on our own.

We are deeply grateful to Kahua Athletics and their coaches for their free coaching and commitment to bringing meaningful opportunities to young men in Puna. We truly want to show up for them in return — and we hope you can help us do that.

Every dollar helps, and even a share of this campaign helps spread the word.

Mahalo nui loa to every one of you — whether you know us personally or are simply moved to support a young athlete’s journey. Your generosity, big or small, makes a lasting impact on Kiaʻikai’s future and dreams.

With aloha and gratitude,
Ka’ehukai and ʻOhana
