Hi, I am Kia Noibi, a 23 year old self-employed Licensed Massage Therapist living in Iowa City. I have always been a physically active individual who grew up doing gymnastics and track and field and currently go to the gym and do yoga. Recently, I underwent surgery due to a health crisis that required immediate attention. While the surgery was successful, the recovery process has been more demanding than anticipated, both physically and financially. Because my career is physically demanding I am unsure when I am able to return. It could be up to a year before I am able to return to work full-time because of the strength and endurance needed. We are humbly asking for your assistance to help cover the medical expenses and alleviate the financial strain caused by this unexpected ordeal.

As many of you may know, I have just battled a recent and unexpected health crisis. In February I went to Urgent Care for what I thought was just a cold that didn’t seem to be getting any better that led to an emergency bronchoscopy at the University, where a 1.2cm mass (Pluto) was removed from my windpipe. After this surgery I was informed it was an atypical carcinoid tumor and would have to undergo a more invasive procedure. On April 17th I underwent a massive surgery, a pneumonectomy where my whole left lung was removed. While the surgery was necessary for my well-being and quality of life, it has also brought about significant financial implications. Between medical bills, prescription medications, and everyday expenses, the cost of recovery has added up quickly, placing a considerable burden on me and my loved ones.

Even with insurance coverage, there are still current and future medical expenses including the ambulance ride, multiple scans, and overnight hospital stays. Additionally, the recovery period has forced me to take time off work, resulting in a loss of income that has further compounded our financial challenges.

In light of these circumstances, we are turning to our community for assistance. Your support will help us cover the costs of medical bills, rehabilitation services, and other essential expenses related to my recovery.
