Help My Niece Keylha Fight Ovarian Cancer

My niece, Keylha Jauregui, is a sweet, intelligent, and incredibly strong 17-year-old who was looking forward to celebrating the end of high school and the beginning of her future. She had just completed a medical pathways program at Central Union High School in El Centro, California, and was accepted into Imperial Valley College’s nursing program, dreaming of one day becoming a nurse practitioner.

But just weeks before graduation, after months of unexplained pain and bloating, Keylha was diagnosed with Stage IIIA ovarian cancer (dysgerminoma) — a rare and aggressive cancer that primarily affects adolescents and young women.

She even had to miss Grad Night, a celebration she had been looking forward to, because she was undergoing urgent medical testing and care.

After being transferred to UCSD Moores Cancer Center, imaging revealed a 24 cm abdominopelvic mass. On June 9, 2025, she underwent major surgery to remove the tumor, one ovary, part of the omentum, and several lymph nodes. The tumor was confirmed to be a dysgerminoma.

WHAT'S NEXT

On August 11, Keylha begins intensive outpatient chemotherapy, which will include multiple infusions each week.

Her parents — my brother and sister-in-law — have had to stop working and temporarily relocate to San Diego to support her full-time.

Ayuda a mi sobrina Keylha a luchar contra el cáncer de ovario

Mi sobrina, Keylha Jauregui, es una joven dulce, inteligente e increíblemente fuerte de 17 años, que estaba emocionada por celebrar el final de la preparatoria y el comienzo de su futuro. El 9 de junio de 2025, se sometió a una cirugía mayor para extirpar el tumor, un ovario, parte del epiplón y varios ganglios linfáticos. El tumor fue confirmado como un disgerminoma.

QUÉ SIGUE

El 11 de agosto, Keylha comenzará una quimioterapia intensiva ambulatoria, que incluirá múltiples infusiones cada semana.

Sus padres —mi hermano y mi cuñada— han tenido que dejar de trabajar y reubicarse temporalmente en San Diego para apoyarla a tiempo completo.
