Support Keya's Family in Need

Hey friends,

I’m writing this with a heavy heart on behalf of a very close family friend, Keya and her beautiful, resilient family (Sky, Stephen, Chey, Jay, and Grandma, as everyone affectionately calls her). They’ve been hit hard lately—and I mean hard. And now, they’re facing something no family should ever have to go through: eviction.

Keya, Sky, Grandma, Stephen, their kitty, and two teenagers, Chey and Jay (one just starting high school and the other stepping into her upperclassman year) are all under one roof… or at least, they were. This week, they were evicted after falling just one week behind on rent—$750. That’s it. Just one week. They’re still expected to pay another $750 to cover this upcoming week while they pack and figure out where to go.

There are six of them, trying to survive in a rental that costs $3,000 a month—an absolutely insane amount considering that only one job in the household has remained stable. Sky lost her teaching position and had to go back to housekeeping for a time, taking a massive pay cut just to keep things moving. All while studying, training, and paying out-of-pocket to become a certified RBT/ABA therapist at an autism center (which she LOVES, by the way—following in her mom’s footsteps!). But during that period, her hours were limited, and the pay was almost nonexistent.

Add to that the cost of a rental car (because their minivan’s transmission gave out—of course it did), which is running them over $200 a week, a storage unit they can’t afford, no money for school supplies, and basic groceries getting harder to come by… it’s a lot. Too much.

They’ve all been such troopers—especially the kids. They’ve been handling cheap dinners, hand-me-downs, and quiet worry with grace. But let’s be real—this is not the way any kid should have to start a new school year.

To make things even harder, Chey is still healing from nerve damage, the rest of the family is currently recovering from COVID, and the landlord has been cruel and heartless since this all began.

All they’re asking for is $750—just enough to cover this final week and give them a little breathing room while they pack up and try to find a safe next step. That’s it. No extras. Just help keeping a roof over their heads for a few more days.

If you can give anything at all—even just the cost of your coffee today—please do. And if you can’t donate, sharing this would mean the world. I’ve watched this family love each other, work hard, and push through so much already. They deserve a break.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and caring. Let’s help keep this family together, safe, and moving forward.
