Kevin Robinson has been battling respiratory and heart failure for years now. In early February, he was hospitalized for a bacterial infection, which led to a bout with sepsis. From that, it weakened his respiratory system even further, causing him to develop hypoventilation syndrome, and landed him in the ICU for 18 days.
During his ICU stay, drastic measures were taken to save his life and give him the best option going forward. He was first intubated and put on a mechanical ventilator to breathe entirely for him. He was then put on ECMO therapy, which is the process of cycling blood from the body through a machine to re-infuse it with oxygen, and then pump it back into the person's body (similar to dialysis for kidney patients, this acts like a surrogate set of lungs). The ECMO treatment used was VV, meaning both the inlet and outlet were placed in the same location, his internal jugular vein. He also had a tracheostomy performed on him, and a stomach peg placed for feeding purposes. He has since been weaned off of ECMO, and it has been removed. He was also transferred out of the ICU to a Long Term Acute Care Hospital where he's got several weeks (to months) of recovery ahead of him.
This has been hard on all of us as a family, Kevin included, and we are not the ones who normally reach out for help. Nor do we usually accept handouts or charity, but we are not immune to the financial hardships that would affect any family that had to go through what Kevin has gone through, and will continue to go through. So, it is with hearts on our sleeves, we humbly ask that anyone who would like to donate to help cover Kevin's medical expenses, cover travel costs, lost time at work, and to help out with Kevin's needs at this time, please do so below.
From the Robinson family to yours, we are extremely grateful, even if you cannot or choose not to donate. All continued support and good vibes are appreciated. Thank you.
