I am a long-time Virginia Democratic political activist and a survivor of sexual harassment and violence. Joe Morrissey is currently suing me for defamation in the Petersburg Circuit Court for $1.35 million.

BACKGROUND:

Joe Morrissey is a disgusting human being. He is also a former member of the Virginia state legislature.

While serving in the House of Delegates, Morrissey—then 56-years-old—initiated a sexual relationship with an underage employee, age 17. I think most people would believe that to be statutory rape.

Morrissey was indicted on multiple felony charges, including indecent liberties with a minor, possession and distribution of child pornography, and electronic solicitation of a minor.

Somehow, Morrissey has largely evaded justice. He received only one misdemeanor conviction and served just three months out of a 12-month sentence. Even worse, while Morrissey was serving in the State Senate, Democratic Senate Leader Scott Surovell lobbied the governor's office to grant Morrissey a pardon, effectively absolving Morrissey of his conviction.

Pardon or not, Morrissey is a detestable human being. If you have any doubt about that whatsoever, I urge you to examine Morrissey’s Alford Plea (a type of guilty plea). You will need a strong stomach to do so and will probably want to take a shower immediately after. You can read that plea at the link here.

WHY I NEED YOUR HELP:

I have strongly and repeatedly criticized both Senators Morrissey and Surovell for their roles in this scandal. Emboldened by his pardon, Morrissey now sues people left and right for “defaming” him when they talk about his disgusting conduct with a child almost 40 years his junior.

He is suing me for defamation, even though Morrissey lost a similar defamation lawsuit in February 2025. The judge in that case ruled that that calling Morrissey a "violent thug, liar, and sexual predator" had a factual basis and could not be defamation.

If I can secure a good lawyer, I believe Morrissey’s case against me will fail on similar grounds. Unfortunately, I am currently unemployed; I have no money to pay a lawyer and have no legal training or experience.

Though Morrissey has been disbarred twice, he is a highly celebrated trial lawyer. Alone, I would be hopelessly outmatched by him in court.

I've had the good fortune to find an attorney with extensive experience in such cases who is willing to defend me for a drastically reduced hourly rate. Every single penny raised here will go directly to fund my defense against Morrissey.

If Joe Morrissey wins this case, he could very well spend the rest of his life filing defamation suits against anyone who dares to tell the truth about him. Please help us stop that from happening.
