Support Kevin's Fight Against Brain Cancer

Story

**UPDATE** 06/25/2025 Kevin peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father this morning at 10:30 a.m. He fought bravely to stay with us, but it was not meant to be. Kevin and I went through the academy together and worked together in a variety of assignments for 20 years. His passing leaves a hole in the lives of so many who knew and loved him. In addition to funeral expenses, his family is still facing significant medical expenses. If you're able to donate, it would be deeply appreciated. If you can share this GoFundMe, that helps just as much. Please help us spread the word. Rest in peace, Kevin. You are already deeply missed by so many already. **UPDATE** 06/04/2025 Kevin's tumor in the Thalamas has grown. There is also another tumor there. This is almost the middle of the brain and inoperable. There has been some other growth that isn't really significant. Also, it's really rare with this type of cancer (chalk it up to Morris Luck), it has spread to the right foramen of Monro. That means it's in Kev's central nervous system. That's why we haven't been able to get good pain control. We will be starting hospice by the end of the week. Kevin has 2 weeks to 2 months. Our kids do not know, yet. ***UPDATE ON KEVIN*** On 1/27/25, Kevin, was ambulanced down to the U of U Hospital. On 1/28/25, he had a 5.5cm x 4cm x 4.5cm Glioblastoma (Cancerous Brain Tumor) removed from his brain. Surgery went well. In the evening of Thursday, 1/30/25, Kevin was transferred to the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital at the U. He began physical and occupational therapy twice a day and Speech therapy once daily. He has done well. Glioblastoma is not curable. It is a very aggressive, fast growing Cancer. The Oncologist described it like an octopus. Removing the tumor is like taking the head of the octopus. There are still tentacles reaching out into other parts is the brain. More rumors will form the the "tentacles " will continue to grow. Kevin will do chemo and radiation. Radiation will start at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital on Monday, February 24th. Kevin will have Radiation Mon-Fri for 6 weeks. Chemo will start in 1-2 weeks. He'll do chemo pills 7 days a week for 6 weeks. That's Phase 1 of treatment. After that he'll start Phase 2. With treatment, on average, life expectancy is 12-14 months. We are being discharged from the rehab center now and will head home. Kevin will have Homecare coming in for physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy. He'll also have a nurse come to the house. Feel free to share this. This GoFundMe has been started with permission from Misty, Kevin's wife and all funds will go directly to them. Kevin has fought with many health issues in the last 5 years. He was in the ICU on life support in July of 2023. He fought hard and recovered. In October of 2023, he was declining quickly and was unable to walk. He again fought and regained walking. In June 2024, Kevin was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). He continued to work, sometimes using a walker or even a wheelchair. Due to his health condition, frequent hospital trips, and more physical decline, he lost his job in October. He also lost the use of his left arm and leg, becoming bed-bound. Misty, his wife, works in the medical field. She has been taking care of Kevin while working full-time. Kevin has had many doctor's appointments. Misty has had to leave work and use her paid time off to get him to his appointments. She is almost out of PTO. On the morning of Monday, January 27th, Kevin had stroke-like symptoms. Misty took him to the ER. They were told that Kevin had a brain tumor. He was transferred down to the U of U Hospital and on Tuesday, Kevin had a malignant (cancerous) brain tumor removed. He is now in a rehab hospital in Salt Lake City doing physical, occupational, and speech therapy and will be there for at least a month. Misty needs to miss work to participate in Kevin's therapy and work on getting him home. On top of this, the trip is 50 miles each way, and so they are going through gas more than they ever have as Misty drives back and forth. Once Kevin is home, there is medical equipment (that the health insurance won't cover) needed to help care for Kevin. Kevin's treatment will include chemotherapy and radiation. Misty will need to miss more work to get Kev to these appointments and support him.
