Hi everyone, my name is Sam, and I’m creating this GoFundMe for my stepdad, Kevin, and our family.
Kevin was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in February 2025 after what we thought was pneumonia. Doctors found a mass in his thoracic cavity affecting his spine, along with cancerous fluid in the pleural space of his right lung. He had a lung catheter placed and went through radiation and chemotherapy. He also underwent a stem cell transplant, but unfortunately, the transplant did not work, and the cancer returned.
From the beginning, we were told multiple myeloma is treatable, but not curable. Even knowing that, we truly believed the stem cell transplant would give Kevin real time and stability. Kevin’s care team has told us that in all their time treating multiple myeloma, they have never seen it behave this aggressively. It is progressing rapidly, and we are facing new complications almost daily.
Kevin’s myeloma has now progressed into his cerebrospinal fluid (CNS involvement). He is currently hospitalized, has lost feeling from his midsection down to his toes, and is losing feeling and strength in his hands. Doctors are urgently treating him, including brain surgery, so chemotherapy can be administered “top down,” along with additional forms of chemo. He may also need to be transferred to Ohio State for treatment, depending on insurance approvals.
In addition, Kevin has developed a blood clot in his right leg. Doctors placed a filter to help prevent clots from traveling to his lungs (pulmonary embolism risk). Because of his recent brain surgery, he cannot safely be on full blood thinners right now, which adds another serious complication to his condition.
Kevin has had to stop working, and my mom is staying at the hospital 24/7 as instructed by his medical team. Until then, Kevin and my mom’s household income has been severely impacted, and they are struggling to keep up with the basic expenses that don’t stop, while medical bills continue to grow.
I also have a sister, Quinn, who is a freshman at The Ohio State University and was a direct admit into the College of Nursing. She has always been dedicated to helping others, especially Kevin, and has been involved in his care from the beginning, including helping with his lung catheter care during treatment when she was a senior in high school.
Before I list what the funds will be used for, I just want to say thank you. Our family is incredibly grateful for every message, every prayer, every meal dropped off, every ride, every check-in, and every act of support so far. It has carried us through moments we didn’t think we could survive.
Anyone who knows Kevin knows what an incredible human being he is. Through all of this, he has faced it with grace and dignity, and he has never stopped being kind, loving, and strong. He has taught all of us so much about what it means to show up for people and live with heart, even when life is unbearably hard.
Funds will be used to help with:
• Medical bills and treatment-related expenses
• Car payments and insurance
• Utilities and household bills
• Groceries and everyday necessities
• Quinn’s tuition and school-related costs
• Possible transfer/travel costs for treatment
• Future funeral and related expenses
While I wish I could personally cover the cost of everything needed for my family, I cannot. So my family and I are humbly asking for support.
Any amount truly helps. If you’re not able to donate right now, please consider sharing this page. Thank you so much for supporting Kevin and our family.
