On September 5, 2024, Kevin Summerfield, a social studies teacher and BSU advisor at Sheldon High School in Eugene, OR, suffered a stroke. He called a few colleagues to ask that they make sure sub plans were available (and to remind them to hide the answer key), thinking he could be back to work within a week. As much as we wish he could bounce back like a superhero, Kevin remains in a skilled nursing facility while he works with physical therapists and neurologists to regain his mobility.

If you talk to the man, you wouldn't think he has as long a road to recovery, but he still needs to make progress before he'll be home. He's been in care for a month, and it looks like he'll remain in care for a while yet.

Meanwhile, his beloved dog Kumasi needs care, and the medical bills for medical care—weeks in the hospital, and now weeks in the nursing facility—have started to come in. His most pressing need right now is money to make sure that the bills are paid, that his dog has food, and that he can hang on to financial stability while he recovers.
