Ten years ago this November, Kevin Neary was shot in an armed robbery in Philadelphia, the city that he loves. The gunshot tore apart Kevin’s spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed below the neck and dependent on breathing assistance. Although Kevin maintains his independent spirit, he relies on 24/7 care to survive.

Over the years, Kevin’s community has supported him with in-person fundraisers to help pay for his care. Unfortunately, these fundraisers were not possible last year. However, Kevin’s health care needs are as important as ever. We are taking to GoFundMe for the first time to spread Kevin’s story and invite his support community to contribute if they feel comfortable doing so in these difficult times.

As a quadriplegic, Kevin relies on nurses and aides to take care of basic needs, like getting in and out of bed, bathing and dressing, and helping meet his medical needs.  He also runs into expenses not covered by insurance, including the van that helps him get around, supplies, and other services that help him live a more independent life.

By contributing, you can play a huge part - not only for Kevin, but also for Kevin’s dad, Joe, and the rest of the Neary family. Joe is Kevin’s primary caregiver. While Joe has a lot of energy, every caregiver needs support and rest.
