Support Kevin Anderson's Family After Devastating Storms

My name is Kevin Anderson. My wife, Ashley, and our (almost) two-year old daughter, Layla suffered severe damage to our home during Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. Hurricane Helene brought over a foot of water in to our home, causing us to evacuate in the middle of the night in order to get our daughter to safety. Upon returning to our home we discovered that 70 percent (or more) of our belongings were destroyed by storm surge and sewage water. I immediately started removing all damaged items from our home and salvaging what we could which wasn't much. These efforts were interrupted by Hurricane Milton approximately two weeks after the first storm. Hurricane Milton caused additional damage to our home, ripping off a large section of our roof in the back of the house, allowing for additional water damage.

Between both storms, our home is uninhabitable, and we have been in 5 different hotels since 28 September paying out of pocket to maintain a somewhat normal life for our little girl. We applied for FEMA but were denied any assistance. We also have a flood insurance claim pending and two homeowners' claims pending. Not only has the hotel cost caused financial hardship, but we lost one of our vehicles in the storm and we've had to acquire a storage unit which was another unexpected cost. Due to the hotel costing $140 per night, my wife and I decided it would be more fiscally responsible to purchase a camper which was another unexpected cost. My mother-in-law was our primary source of childcare as I am full time Active Duty Military and my wife works full time for Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Unfortunately, my mother in law's home was damaged worse than ours causing us to put our daughter in daycare which is another unexpected cost.

To anyone considering my family for a donation. I can assure you that we are good people and we are typically the ones offering the help to others vs. being the ones in need. This is all very new and unusual for us. I am currently assigned to United States Special Operations Command and MacDill AFB and have been in the United States Air Force for 15+ years. My family is in a rough spot and I wouldn't have started this page unless I thought it was absolutely necessary.
