If you’re reading this then you’re on my short list of folks in the psychedelic space who I’ve directly worked with, you’ve supported some of my work in some way big or small in the past, or this link was forwarded to you.
I started this GoFundMe because I’m experiencing some financial challenges and asking this community for some aid to get back on my feet. Leading with openness and transparency, it’s been month-to-month for a while, and all the debt I’ve accrued over the past year has finally caught up with me to the point where I’m significantly behind on several expenses and at risk of losing my home in the next few days.
How did I get here? Well, I got myself here. I’ve been personally struggling with things like impostor syndrome, questioning my own self-worth, and placing other people’s needs/dreams before my own. Being a single dad presents its own unique challenges, too, and while I can make excuses all day for how hard it’s been, the simple fact is that I haven’t been putting myself first, have made some poor financial decisions, and didn’t forecast/prepare for possible changes in employment. Simply put, it’s my fault and responsibility and I’ve been letting fear get in the way of action.
A friend recently asked if I even want to do the work in psychedelics. My answer was a wholehearted yes, even to the point where I’ve sacrificed parts of myself for the greater mission, but that behavior has also gotten me in this sticky situation. Psychedelic politics is the greatest oxymoron (in my opinion) to possibly exist, and I’m learning (the hard way, apparently) that’s part of the cosmic joke at play.
Another friend who’s very well known in our field recently told me that his work is his spiritual practice – such a simple statement yet an incredibly profound one that closed the gap for me in what I’ve been missing with my personal and professional approach to the psychedelic ecosystem. I entered this space because of a profound experiential bond with the Creator that guided me to the work, and I’ve let the politics of it all distance myself from deepening that connection.
Here are some projects that demonstrate my continued commitment to this space:
- I’ve been featured quite a bit in the press recently in the Denver Business Journal , on 9News (Denver’s NBC affiliate), 850 KOA , and Filter Magazine. I was also recently featured in MAPS’ announcement regarding Denver's Psychedelic Crisis Assessment and Intervention training for first responders. This training was commissioned by the Denver Psilocybin Mushroom Policy Review Panel and represents a huge milestone!
- I’m on the planning committee for the 2024 Aspen Psychedelic Symposium (very exciting details to be announced there soon!)
- I’m (finally) launching our industry's first hybrid political training platform, Mobilize the Movement , dedicated to demystify the politics and the process, teach people the fundamentals of how to transform hearts, minds, and laws for local policy reform, and generate a stronger base of support for the broader state and federal policy work. (This project is where I’ve been facing the deepest fears and insecurities). The first introductory 90 minute masterclass is on March 28 (which you’ll see blasted all over social media this weekend).
