My name is Kerian. As some of you may know my father Kerry Platow has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Throat Cancer. This was a huge shock to our family as I’m sure cancer is to many others. He has been dealing with pain in his right tonsil and ear for over two years. After truly having to advocate for himself he finally got the answer to his medical issues. Unfortunately, it was nothing we could have ever expected.
I would like to give you a little background on him if you are not familiar with my father. My dad is the type of guy that will be there when you need something fixed up around the house. He may be the quiet type but he isn’t afraid to show you how much you mean to him. My father is the one who goes the extra mile to help his neighbors in a big snow storm and uses his snowblower to clear off their driveways. He is dedicated to his job and always goes in with a smile on his face, even when he isn’t having the best of days. Kerry served the community of Rio Rancho, NM for 27 years, 20 of which he worked for Rio Rancho Police Department as an officer working both in a cruiser unit and on the motorcycle unit. The remaining 7 years he was a security guard turned into armed security guard for Rio Rancho Public Schools at Cleveland High School. All those years of service, he faced numerous challenges, but none of them were as fierce as what he’s facing now. The throat cancer he’s up against is an aggressive one, and categorized as stage 3. Doctors have confirmed this as it has spread to his tonsil, lymph nodes and neck muscles.
Since the cancer is aggressive, the treatment has to be just as aggressive, if not more so. He is doing chemotherapy weekly and radiation 5 days a week. This isn’t cheap. He has insurance, but as you all know, insurance is rough nowadays. Also with this intense treatment regime it is tough on the body. His treatments make him tired and we are not sure about how this will affect his ability to work in the near future. Paula, my stepmother, is also having to take some extra time off work to help my father get to and from to some of his treatments.
Unfortunately, with them now living in Wisconsin it is hard for me to be there in the way I would like to be. This is my contribution to aide to his healing besides being there in spirit, through phones calls and the occasional visit as my schedule allows. I know that with how the economy is today, it’s a tough ask, but I’m asking for help for a tough guy, help him kick cancers ass in anyway possible. I am asking for any form of help you can provide. If it’s a kind word and a prayer, awesome, if it’s good vibes because that’s your thing, thanks! If it is to help with a meal wonderful! But if there’s anything monetarily that you can swing, it will help ease the stress of the situation and to help my dad truly focus on beating this horrible diagnosis.
Thank you for taking a minute to read about this cancer warrior. Help make my dad a cancer survivor!
Thank you and God Bless!
Kerian Meyerson
