SUPPORT KERRY-ANN’S LONG JOURNEY TO RECOVERING

Donation protected
Hello - my name is Debbie Small and I am Kerry-Ann’s Aunt.
Kerry-Ann suffered an extreme case of pneumonia in both lungs – resulting in being transferred to ICU and put into an induced coma and intubated. Below you can find the communication that has been relayed to family and friends.
It would be greatly appreciated if you are able to help Kerry-Ann with a monetary donation to support her on her long journey to recovering. Kerry-Ann is going to require home care, home support, physiotherapy, house keeping and may also have the burden of additional costs for equipment that will be required for her best recovery.
We want to thank everyone for their emotional support and well wishes – the positive energy and love is truly felt ❤❤❤

Please find below the communication to family and friends provided by her sister Melissa which we are all grateful for!!

Kerry-Ann went to the hospital on Monday Aug 30th (unable to eat for days, puking bile, diarrhea, fever of 102.7 and felt her lungs were compromised. Diagnosed with pneumonia they put her on antibiotics ... no better by Wednesday ... went back ... sent her home ... by Friday she was no better went back ... they did a CT Scan and right lung was completely full of pneumonia - admitted her - as she was struggling and her oxygen was extremely low - they did another CT Scan and both lungs were completely full. Saturday she’s transferred to ICU and put into a medical induced coma and intubated ... ICU Doctor said this was their only option - saying her lungs look worse than a full blown set of Covid lungs (she has been vaccinated and is Covid negative). When asked what the prognosis looked like for her - the Doctor said that she cannot answer that at this time
Sept 5th - Kerry- Ann not responding to treatment ... they could possibly transfer her to another hospital ... latest update ..
Kerry-Ann still in critical condition - her CT Scan still showing her lungs to be very poor - being transferred not off the table - she is starting to respond to treatment (this is good) ... if that continues they will continue to treat her at GBGH - however if it doesn't, they are prepared to send her to another hospital that is equipped with treatments GBGH is not equipped with - not knowing which hospital that would be at this time. I asked the nurse to tell her that everyone is thinking of her and sending their love and to continue to rest.
Sept 6th1:19am ... Kerry-Ann's nurse still with her. Been trying to get an update since just after 9pm .. she is still intubated - however she is alert - comfortable - responding to her nurse by using her pillow to say yes or no ❤❤
1030 am ... Jake (her son) and myself (sister Melissa) were able to visit with Kerry-Ann. She is still intubated and very restless (can't imagine how difficult this is for her). I have passed along EVERYONE'S LOVE AND WELL WISHES by NAME - she says THANK-YOU AND LOVES YOU ALL ❤. I expressed that we all want her to please try and rest so her lungs can improve and she can continue to get better - this girl is a fighter - she even wanted her phone charged to be able to communicate with people but it would prevent rest for her so we told her there is no place to charge her phone at the moment. PLEASE continue to pray and send her a message on Facebook or text because once she is able and she reads of them - it will empower her even more to fight. ❤ much love and thank-you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers ❤
Sept 7th 9am ... Kerry-Ann is resting and not as restless - she is still intubated and heavily sedated. They will be doing a scan today to see if her lungs are improving. This is positive that she isn't as restless
Update 3:07pm ... Kerry-Ann seems to be improving ... they are going to start to turn the machine down a bit to see if her lungs can do some of the work
... Update: ...Kerry-Ann has taken a few steps back - they’ve had to sedate her more and turn the up the intubation as her oxygen dropped and her lungs were not able to do as they hoped - they increased the sedation to help her rest more. Please keep your positive thoughts and prayers coming ❤❤
Sept 8th ... There has been no change in Kerry-Ann. On a positive note she is sedated ... which is better than an induced medical coma - please keep your positive energy and prayers coming ❤ we greatly appreciate them ❤
Sept 9th ... Kerry-Ann has not improved - she remains heavily sedated. They attempted to turn the machine down some to see if she could do any breathing on her own and she was not able too. Their "plan" is to continue this treatment - I am NOT okay with that ... she is young and they are a Level 3 ICU ... I will be meeting with the Dr. tomorrow morning to have an in depth conversation to first understand why they are continuing this treatment with no improvement (maybe I am missing something!?) and to advocate for her to be transferred to Level 4 ICU Hospital that can provide her a more progressive treatment that they can not (that was an option they already considered). I know there is many questions surrounding her "just having" pneumonia ... could this be Covid? We have asked and they assure us her Covid Tests keep coming back negative. I wish I had better news ... my heart is litterly broken and I feel helpless Please continue to send your positive energy and prayers ❤
Sept 10th ... Just spoke with Dr.Tahir ... He is happy with the recent improvements - The ventilator is on Spontaneous Mode - which mean Kerry-Ann triggers it to expand her lungs - this has shown slight improvement through recent chest X-rays.
Dr. Tahir has decided to start backing off on sedation to see how she tolerates her being alert - this will help to exercise the bottom of her lungs - as long as she tolerates this well the hope is to remove ventilation by Monday could be sooner.
I want to assure everyone that we were very pleased after talking to Dr. Tahir and the improvements that Kerry-Ann has shown.
Dr. Tahir was ready to investigate internally with a scope and possible samples it Kerry-Ann had not shown any progress- however he is pleased with the direction she is now going.
Please continue to send your positive thoughts and prayers ❤
Update 10:57pm: ... Kerry-Ann's ventilator is on minimal settings - they are working on waking her up - they are hopeful to remove her intubation tomorrow - Kerry-Ann is tolerating this process well ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank-you so much for all your positive energy and prayers - please continue to send as her recovery will be a long process ❤❤
Sept 11th ... Kerry-Ann is off all sedation medication- although some is still in her system - she is opening her eyes and moving her legs - she is still intubated on spontaneous mode.
We will be going up to visit her shortly ❤❤❤
Sept 12th ... Kerry-Ann has had the machine removed and is responding very well ❤❤❤
She was not aware where she was or what has happened - she is extremely overwhelmed and scared and wants to go home (this is so Kerry-Ann)! We let her know that she has a long road ahead of recovery and that as much as we would rather her at home - she is best to continue with her treatment and medical care until her health is ready and allows for that ❤
I have told her about the outpour of love, positive energy, prayers and support that has been sent her way - I have also played a few video/voice recordings sent but it caused a lot of emotion so I will play each as she is ready for them.
Sept 13th ... Hey Everyone ❤ Kerry-Ann is progressing very slowly BUT she is progressing ❤
She sat in a chair today with the help of her physio therapists - she is having difficulty talking but does try. She is eating soft liquids and drinking fluids.
Her road to recovery will be a long process - she doesn't remember even going into the ICU - she is very scared and has asked a few times what happen.
I share with her messages and words of positivity from each of you ... sometimes it’s way too overwhelming so I hold off ... she feels the love and support and she dearly appreciates it all - as do I ❤❤❤
You are all so amazing and I appreciate each and every one of you ❤❤❤

Latest Update before I send out this Gofundme for my niece Kerry-Ann.

Sept 14th ... Kerry-Ann is doing good - still cognitively confused and not remembering past events - asked me 2 times today which hospital she was in.
Kerry-Ann walked down the hall in ICU with her physiotherapists today ❤ small baby steps with assistance but it is HUGE STEPS for us.
I played her messages today and read all messages today ... she cried but said she felt so loved and cared for ❤ My words will never be enough to say how grateful and thankful we are to all of you for all the positive healing energy and prayers ❤
Much love to each and everyone of you ❤

Thank you from the bottom of my ❤️ For your support in Kerry-Ann’s recovery! Love Debbie
