If you have eaten at a restaurant in Anchorage over the last 25+ years, you most likely met Kerry. Kerry Young has been a presence in the Anchorage dining scene for decades. He started his Anchorage culinary adventures as a busser at Clinkerdagger, Bickerstaff and Petts (Per Kerry, this is for the OG's). Since then, he's worked at Lonestar, Cattle Company, Sullivan's, Southside Bistro, Simon & Seafort's, and most recently Altura and Ginger.
In September, Kerry slipped and fell at work and hit his elbow. Unfortunate event, but he thought he was fine. A few weeks later, his elbow was bothering him enough to go to urgent care. A week after that, his roommate and a friend insisted he go to the hospital and called the paramedics. We are so thankful for them as he was immediately admitted due to a MERS staph infection.
He had life-saving, emergency surgery on both of his arms and one of his legs in November. He was in the hospital for weeks and fought his way through on double dialysis, despite a 20% survival rate. He also discovered through all of this that he is diabetic.
We thought he was on the other side of emergency surgeries and on the road to recovery. However, his physical therapist felt something in one of his legs and he had to go in for another surgery on December 28th to remove yet another staph infection. We are so thankful for his physical therapist!
If you know Kerry, you know him as a funny, sarcastic, generous curmudgeon. We need him around to make us laugh, eat his food, and give us shit. He needs our help. He has been out of work since November and the bills are piling up all around him. He has more rehab to do before he can work again. We're hoping that we can raise enough funds to allow him to focus on recovery and not "How will I survive, now that I've survived?"
