As some of you may already know, Keri, the mother to my step children suffered a brain bleed and massive stroke early Friday morning, just two days after helping her daughter bring a baby into the world. She has since been in the neuro ICU at Rhode Island hospital. This has always been a fear of Keri’s knowing aneurysms took the life of both her parents. Keri was very fortunate to be at work when her stoke symptoms became prevalent, her coworkers jumped into action getting her help immediately. Although she is in stable condition and things are looking far more promising than we had originally thought they would, she is far from out of the woods. The doctors have not yet found the source of bleeding in her brain, she has a drain to relieve the pressure and has not shown any additional deficits. The procedure to look for the bleed will be repeated in a few days. At this point it is unclear how long her recovery will be but we can assume months to be the least.
Keri was the primary provider in her household and currently working overnight and going to nursing school during the day. The house she lives in with her family is being sold and Keri was in the process of trying to find somewhere else to live in a very difficult market.
Keri would never ask for help from anyone, and typically neither would we, but we would love to be able to help her have a home to come back to for her and her kids, however long that may take.
