Support Kentucky Artists: Retreat Scholarships

I'm Nicole Garneau, a performance artist and theater-maker based in Kentucky. I'm hosting a retreat for performing artists to support them in the development of new performance work.

The Rebellious Performance Retreat in rural Southeastern Kentucky will be a 5-day immersive residential retreat focused on all kinds of performance practices and support for the artists who make this work (or desire to learn).

There are a number of talented Kentucky artists who want to attend the retreat but do not have funds for tuition, so I am raising money to support them in attending the retreat. These funds will be used to support young, LGBTQIA+, and/or BIPOC artists in taking time to develop their work in a community of other artists.

Your support helps build liberatory performance and art work in Appalachia.

We originally planned to meet at the Pine Mountain Settlement School in Harlan County, Kentucky, but unfortunately we had to move lo cations due to a disturbance caused by local Harlan County residents who interrupted a gathering by the Waymakers Collective. (Read about it HERE.)

For the safety of our participants, we changed the location of the retreat, and the new space is more expensive than the Settlement School. All donations support artists having a safe and accessible place to make our work.

Supporting the development of activist performance practices in Kentucky directly confronts the racist, sexist, and anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and cultural warfare folks are suffering in Kentucky and other parts of Appalachia. Appalachian artists are absolute badasses. I want us to know each other and build each other up.
