Hi everyone, this is Sandy and my dad had a major heart procedure and had an LVAD installed into his heart a few days ago. This is a lifesaving mechanical heart pump for the left side of his heart. You might be asking what is an LVAD, well let me try and explain it for you. The LVAD is a mechanical circulatory support device, that helps patients with severe left ventricular heart failure by taking over the left ventricle's pumping function. You can imagine that this will require several weeks, possibly a month in the hospital recovering and then a rehab facility. Once he is able to get home it will require home health care visits. He will carry 2 batteries and a control unit with him at all times. All of this new hardware will require special clothing items to carry it which of course is not cheap. We are asking for any help to cover medical and life costs that come along. if all you can donate is prayers we will for sure take those as well.
