Kenneth “Ken” Garcia Torrez came to the United States in 2019 from Nicaragua on a visa. Due to ongoing political and safety instability in his home country, he later applied for asylum and was granted a stay with permission to work while his case remained under review.
Many in the community know Ken as a friendly and hardworking bartender at a local Mexican restaurant in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He is a devoted and loving father to their two young children, Sebastian and Abigail. Above all, Ken has consistently worked hard to provide a better life for his family.
On Tuesday, April 7th, Ken was detained by ICE. Since then, his family has been struggling emotionally and financially in his absence. His family deeply miss him, and his loved ones, including siblings who are U.S. citizens and many close friends, are advocating for his safety and return home.
Ken has retained legal representation, and his attorney is actively working on his case. However, the legal process is costly, and the family needs support during this difficult time. At Ken’s request, his employer is not involved, but he wants others to know that he has always been a dedicated employee who pays taxes, works hard, and strives to build a stable life for his family without relying on public assistance.
This fundraiser has been created to help cover legal expenses and provide financial support to his wife and children, who have lost their primary source of income. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help bring Ken one step closer to returning home to his family.
