On May 8th, our dad suffered an Ischemic stroke from a blood clot in his brain. He was flown by helicopter to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a day after, suffered another stroke leaving him unable to feel and see from his left side. Dad spent four days in the Intensive Care Unit where they kept a close eye on him and received treatment. While at the Hospital, he received so much love and support and felt every bit of it. Our mom was always by his side and spent every night with him while in the ICU. He was then transferred to the stroke unit where medication and treatment were continued.
Dad was discharged from the hospital and is now at a rehab center. He is learning to walk again and doing exercises adapting to not being able to feel the left side of his body. He is also learning to adapt to his blind spots and working on reading and writing along with doing speech therapy. He is working very hard at rehab and is doing so well. Anyone who knows dad knows how he likes challenges. He is always so positive and so excited to tell us about what he accomplished in rehab that day.
If he continues progressing at the rate he is going, he will be able to come home the first week of June. Recovery does not stop there. Recovering from a stroke is a long journey. The doctors are expecting recovery to take months for him to get any feeling and his vision back.
The stroke has put an abrupt stop to his income. He is unable to work. Your contribution will cover medical care for our dad including doctors' visits, hospital stays and rehabilitation. The funds will also be used to cover living expenses.
We are so grateful for all the prayers and support for dad's recovery. We know he has been giving his everything through these challenges and fighting to get back on his feet and come home to his wife and children. We do not know what the rest of the journey will look like, but we know with all the support from our community, we can get through it.
Please continue to keep Ken in your prayers and support him through this difficult time. Please consider contributing what you can, as every bit truly matters. Our family thanks you in advance.
