Kenji is the brightest light to show up every morning on the Wai side - rain or shine, howling tradewinds or Maui glass - he is always out there, stoked, dedicated, and sharing his enthusiastic “I happy!” Kenji is a mainstay for morning Pakuz and Sandpiles sessions, and has been surfing these breaks for over 30 years. If you’ve ever been out there with him, you’ve likely gotten to experience his incredible froth and yee-haws as he’s cruising down the waves with the biggest smile on his face.

The morning of November 1, Kenji was attacked by a shark losing his right leg just below his knee. His good friends and regular morning crew helped him in, and he is currently recovering well in the ICU, but we all want to support Kenji as he continues to heal. In true Kenji style, immediately out of surgery, he sagely said, “I still love the ocean!” and we want to support him in getting back to what he loves.
