Support Kenji & family in his medical diagnosis

My name is Kenji. I’m a Labrador retriever, and I’m 9 years old. In 2013, I was given to a family who, at the time, needed me most. They didn’t know it yet, but I was going to be a part of their lives in a big way. As I grew up, I saw my family's constant love and care: Masae, Jason, Miyuki, Shari, and my new mommy, Gabby, gave my brother, Taiko and me even when we were crazy troublemakers. We both love to play around in the backyard loudly, sleep, eat carbs and cheese as treats, and bark at the squirrels that come by to taunt us.

In later years, my mommies, Miyuki and Shari, discovered that health and wellness decline as animals age and some complications could arise. This past week on November 1st, I wasn’t feeling well, and my tummy began to swell over a short period of time. I didn’t know why but I didn’t feel like eating anything (which I love most, no matter what) and could not get up off the floor. My family got worried and took me to the emergency room quickly because they thought it was due to my stomach flipping, a severe life-threatening complication if not treated fast at the ER.

It took some time, but they were able to diagnose it, and luckily while it didn’t turn out the way we expected, we did find the issue was due to internal bleeding from a tumor on my spleen. The blood needed to be drained, and my spleen needed to be removed immediately to save my life. The doctors told my family that I may have hemangiosarcoma, cancer in the blood vessels. They became more concerned after learning that this type of cancer can metastasize or move to other parts of my body. The doctors say I’ll probably have 1-3 months of life with the surgery to remove the excess blood and tumor they found. I was in the ER for 2 days after my surgery, and I'm feeling better and resting at home while my family watches me 24/7. Even through it all, I am still my happy, hungry self. I’ll have a follow-up appointment soon to see if everything is okay with me and to remove the stitches on my stomach.

Due to surgery, ER visit, and possible chemotherapy, the amount that my family has to pay is a heavy one. My family does not want to give up on me and wants me to be around as long as I comfortably can. If you or anyone you know would like to donate or share this link to help my family, we would appreciate it so much! They do so much for me, and they want to have as much time with me as possible.

My family will post more updates as soon as they know more about my condition.
Thank you, woof <3
