Blessings to anyone reading this who can provide a bit of relief to these deserving women.
This Go Fund Me is to raise money for medical expenses and living expenses for Kenitha and her mother, Angela, as they begin down the long road of helping Angela recover from a debilitating stroke that she suffered in early April 2024. Kenitha was at home that night and had post-poned a flight for work (thank God). She walked into her kitchen to find her mother down on the ground and unresponsive. Kenitha, terrified, called 911 and was able to get her mother to the hospital where Angela received a life-saving medication to treat the stroke. Angela survived the stroke. Praise God. However, her brain suffered a severe injury and she lost a large portion of mobility on one side of her body as well as her speech. She spent a week in the neuro ICU, and has since transitioned to a rehab facility where she continues to work towards improving the deficits she has lost.
For those who know Kenitha, you know that to know her is to love her. She is truly is one of the best friends to all of her people with a heart of gold. She always has a smile on her face and uses her positive energy to uplift others, even when she is struggling herself. And honestly, her past 4 years have really been an emotionally terrible experience. Almost 4 years ago she tragically lost her brother and father within a few weeks of each other. She loved her brother dearly and losing him to heart complications was heart breaking. Not a few weeks later, the unexpected and devastating loss of her best friend and father, Kenneth, was truly unbearable. Kenitha continued to live with grace and has slowly picked up the pieces to continue to be the support both emotionally and financially for her mother.
Angela's stroke has devastated her independence and created a situation where Angela truly needs full time assistance for basic needs such as eating and getting out of the bed. Kenitha has decided, without hesitation, that she will be her mother's caregiver whenever she is at home. However, Kenitha is also the financial provider for her an her mother and will need to continue her own full time job to pay for their mortgage and cost of living. You may know that Kenitha accepted a new position with Caterpillar Inc this year, but since she had been employmed for < 1 year, she does not yet qualify for FMLA. She is required to return to work this week in order to keep her job, but must have full time help for her mother. This leaves Kenitha with the burden of finding full time care for Angela while she is at work. Caregivers rates are $20-$40/hr ($800-$1600/week). Angela's insurance covers only 2 hours of home health per week, which is obviously not sufficient.
Sometimes people just need a break. They need a weight to be lifted to be able to breathe and try to survive the trauma they are living. Please join me in sending some financial assistance to Kenitha & Angela during this time as they find their new normal. Any amount that you can provide will help ease this burden for Kenitha and her mother. In additional to financial assistance for a caregiver, any resources for post-stroke treatment, home health, charity programs, etc are welcomed.
Let’s rally for them and show them what a community can do when someone is struggling. They deserve all the love we can show them.
Blessings to all.
