Hi reader,
Thanks for taking the time out to read this. My name is Kendall, and I have been changed by the amazing world of aviation. I am raising funds to begin my dream of becoming a pilot and will be attending flight school (part 61) beginning in June.
Though I have flown most of my life, it wasn't until a year ago I realized this developing into a true passion of mine. It started with spending countless hours watching documentaries covering disasters and investigations (Shout-out to the Mayday Series, Wonder, and Mentour Pilot on YouTube!). It gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation for why we have the regulations and processes in aviation today, as well as providing me a better feeling of safety whenever boarding an aircraft.
Eventually, I began taking things more seriously. At the generosity of my best friend, he gifted me a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator. I've spent many hours generating my own flight plans, familiarizing myself with different aircraft, and accepting requests to simulate flights across many different cities, countries, and continents to provide to friends and community.
Any time I fly I ask to meet the crew. I introduce myself, ask questions, ask to see the cockpit (within timely reason, I know they are busy), and get a photo. This became something so popular I shared on social media that people would tell me to make sure I get a photo in the cockpit any time I was flying somewhere, and to be sure to share it with everyone. To know that others are invested in your passions only blossomed my appreciation for this more.
In December 2023, on a flight back home for Christmas, I met with the FO (First Officer) who worked for Southwest Airlines. He sat me down in the left seat and told me to "Ask away." We spoke for a good 10 minutes where I had asked about his job, how did he discover he wanted to become a pilot, the typical questions. He saw my flight simulator videos and complimented how realistic they look, and commended my love for aviation. He told me about how in a few years, pilots will begin to retire from the force, and that they will be needing more passionate and energetic people like me in the field. His words stuck with me ever since, and I owe it to that gentleman for pushing me to just dive in.
With all of this being said, flight school is a truly expensive career to pursue (anywhere from $84k-$120k for the span of the schooling). While I have saved up a little money to go towards it on my own, any additional support is greatly appreciated. All funds raised here go to flight school and all materials required. This would have never been possible without the continued support of so many amazing friends and communities.
I again thank you for taking the time to read through this fundraiser. I am excited to embark on a new chapter in life that brings me tremendous joy, and maybe one day you will be a passenger on my flight!
All the best, and with gratitude,
Kendall
