An Update on Skinny: He started much needed Speech and Occupational Therapy this week! During the assessment, the therapists and Ken noticed that he was worse off than even he thought so therapy is scheduled for two-hour sessions, twice a week, for the next fifteen weeks. He is still experiencing significant dizzy spells when getting up from sitting/laying down. His current doctors are having a hard time pinpointing the cause of the dizziness so Jenna got the ball rolling to get a second opinion at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. The occluded blood vessel on the right side of his brain is still present and the treatment (surgery?) is still up in the air. A lot of unknowns still remain…
We are getting closer to reaching the GoFundMe goal. Let’s get Skinny there this weekend!!!
On June 28th, our beloved Kendall “Skinny” Foster began having an excruciating headache while on duty as a Police Detective. Once home, his wife recognized the symptoms were indicative of a stroke and called an ambulance. Once he arrived at the local hospital and medical tests were performed, it was confirmed that Kendall had an occluded blood vessel that supplies blood to the right side of his brain. Kendall was rushed to a more advanced hospital in Richmond, Virginia where he spent four days in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU) being treated for an ischemic stroke. He lost sensation in his left arm from the elbow down, 80% peripheral vision, and physical imbalance. Ken went through countless scans, exams, and testing which resulted in a mandatory “out of work” without pay and a stack of medical bills.
Since being home, Kendall’s cognitive impairment has slowly declined to an alarming point. Speech and cognitive delays are a daily struggle right now. His neurology team is working to address the occluded blood vessel and resulting cognitive changes, and our hope and prayers are we can get our old Skinny back sooner rather than later. He is expected to be out of work for an extended period and needs our help more now than ever! As you can imagine, this has been a significantly stressful time for Kendall, his wife Jenna, and two small children, Collins and Everett. Let’s show Kendall all the love and appreciation we can and help lessen the burden and stress on him and his family. He has given so much to his community and has proven repeatedly to be a dependable friend, colleague, and neighbor. Kendall would give the shirt off his back and his last dollar to help anyone in need. He isn’t one to ask for help himself but now is not the time for him to suffer in silence. He needs his friends, his community, and those that love “Coach Skinny” to show up for him now!
