Hello, my name is Makayla. I have the privilege of being Kenai’s mom.
Kenai has had such a traumatic life so far. He was found on the side of the highway in Dallas by the sheriff and was taken to Dallas Animal Services covered in ticks, underweight, and heartworm positive.
I adopted this super loving boy who had to learn what toys were, how to climb stairs, that TVs weren’t scary, and the ceiling fan wasn’t going to hurt him. It took 8 months to potty train him, where he earned the nickname Weenai.
Kenai is having another battle. What started as a mild case of pneumonia has turned into a battle with septic pneumonia in less than 24 hours. He was so excited Monday morning, having the zoomies, jumping around on the bed, and trying to follow me to the car when I had to go to work that morning. I was so excited to come home and take him out for his walk, but when I opened the front door, my stomach dropped and all excitement vanished.
Kenai is always so excited to see me come home; he will place his big paws on my shoulders and lean his head in for a hug. But this time? He could barely stand, his eyes were so sunken in, his mouth just hung open with thick green discharge coming from his nose. He very weakly walked over to me, and when I pet him, he couldn’t even hold his bladder anymore.
He was rushed to urgent care, then a 24hr emergency hospital, and now with his pneumonia progressing from mild to now septic pneumonia in less than 24 hours, he is now at a specialist hospital.
I am asking for any help for my baby boy. We have spent thousands at the urgent care and 24hr hospital, and now an additional $10,000 at the specialist for the next 24-48 hours. I have exhausted all options, and I can’t bear the thought of not being able to care for him anymore. He is truly the kindest soul and loves everyone and everything, especially his foster kittens. Thank you for any help you can spare.
