Ken Dunbar is a 76-year-old disabled veteran from Barre, Vermont, and a beloved member of our family. For nearly two decades, Ken has lived independently in his second-floor apartment, building his life and community there. Unfortunately, after a change in property ownership, Ken has found himself in a heartbreaking situation. Despite repeated requests for repairs and maintenance, several serious safety and living condition concerns have gone unaddressed. One of the most urgent issues involves the staircase leading to his apartment, which has become unstable and unsafe—a significant hazard for a man with health challenges. Over the past year, Ken has made multiple requests for repairs and assistance, but these concerns have not been adequately resolved. With limited financial resources, Ken has been forced to navigate legal proceedings on his own while trying to protect his housing and advocate for basic safe living conditions. As a disabled veteran living on a fixed income, the emotional, physical, and financial toll has been overwhelming. Now, Ken faces displacement from the home he has known for nearly 20 years, and our family is asking for support to help cover his immediate needs during this transition. Donations will help provide food, groceries, transportation to appointments and housing-related meetings, hygiene and personal care items, temporary housing expenses if needed, moving and storage costs, basic daily living necessities, car maintenance, laundry, and medications. No elder deserves to be subjected to unsafe living conditions, and Ken has tried to advocate for himself to no avail. In this economy and trying times, any small amount of help—whether resources, funds, or kind words—will be a blessing.
