Our dad, Ken Nyman Jr., whom you all know, has served the State of Florida and the Florida Keys as a dedicated and committed Licensed Mortgage Loan Originator since August 1, 1998, assisting countless local and secondary resident families in financing their dream homes. This has been not only his chosen career but also his passion. Suddenly, at the very young age of 61, our father is facing the fight of his life.
On July 26, 2025, our father was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic melanoma cancer, which has spread to his liver, right kidney, spleen, lungs, and brain. Despite this devastating news, he continues to face each day with strength, humor, and love, as you all know he always has.
Our father isn’t just hardworking; he’s a very strong man who truly lives his life to the fullest. He’s passionate about being a consummate outdoorsman, with hobbies that include hunting, fishing, scuba diving, and gun and knife collecting. A native of Buffalo, NY, our father moved to Florida in 1992. He rarely misses a chance to cheer for the Buffalo Bills, his team. Many of Dad’s fondest memories are of the cabin he shared with his dad, my grandfather, in Scio, New York—a place filled with so many stories, laughter, and tradition. Our Dad and his partner, Mark, the son of Sheldon Lavner, our grandpa’s original partner, now own the cabin together, thanks to our Dad preparing and signing joint deeds prior to their father’s passing. The major short-term goal in Dad’s future is to travel to Buffalo to attend the Bucs vs. Bills game on November 16, 2025. After that, Dad will spend the rest of November at the cabin in Scio, hunting until the end of the month. Then it will be back home to Florida to celebrate Christmas with my mom and the rest of our growing family.
Above all of this, our dad is most passionate about family. He is a proud husband, loving father of six children, and a beloved “Papa” to seven grandchildren (soon to be eight!). He’s Ken Nyman, “The Money Man,” who has worked tirelessly to assist a friend, local, or colleague in need.
We now reach out to all the people in our father’s network, whose lives his hard work and devotion have influenced throughout his lifetime, to give back to the man who has always been there for all of us. While the prognosis is favorable because of the strength of the man we speak of, anything can happen at this early juncture in his care routine. The funds donated to the Ken Nyman Jr. GoFundMe will assist with his photon radiation therapy, which began yesterday with Dr. Matthew Biagioli of SMH, Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute. Additionally, to combat the remaining cancer in Dad’s vital organs, he will undergo immunotherapy and chemotherapy infusions with Dr. Mariuxi Viteri of Florida Cancer Specialists. The funds will help cover travel for care and allow Dad to focus on what truly matters: making memories with the people he loves, both near and far.
