Support Ken Byl’s Battle Against Cancer
Donation protected
Recently, our father Ken Byl was diagnosed with stage 3 non small cell lung cancer. It’s been an overwhelming journey since his first appointment on October 23rd. He had been experiencing a constant nagging cough over that last few months which is what led him to that first appointment. After an X-Ray and CT Scan, a large (3 inch) tumor in his left lung was instantly discovered. It’s been a long process, with various tests and procedures to determine the best course of action. Initially, he was seen at Allina in the Twin Cities, but due to the complexities of this treatment we have since moved him down to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for the best possible care. He will be staying in Rochester for at least 6 weeks for radiation Monday through Friday and chemo on Wednesdays. After radiation and chemo therapy is complete, the team at Rochester will re-evaluate and discuss the best course of action and whether surgery is an option.
With that said, our parents will have numerous unexpected expenses such as hotel stays, gas, food, medical bills, etc. They will have the opportunity to stay at the American Cancer Society-Hope Lodge once a room is available. This is on a first come, first serve basis. However, we’re hopeful he will move up the priority list once treatment starts on December 9th. We’d like to provide numerous gift cards for him and mom within close proximity to the Mayo Clinic to various restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and funds for any medical expenses not covered by insurance. Whatever is left over, we would like to donate to The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge. The Hope Lodge operates on a donation basis and we’d like to contribute to help this be sustainable for people in the future that have come into unfortunate circumstances such as our father. We’d like to surprise dad with these donations on Christmas Eve with a card from the donators. We truly appreciate everyone’s support and prayers during these tough times. Thank you and Happy Holidays.
