Hello -
On April 19th, (8 days after we lost Grandma) Kelvin was diagnosed with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML) a rare type of blood cancer that occurs when the bone marrow produces too many monocytes - a type of white blood cell that fights infection.
Since then, it's been a weekly trek to the cancer specialist, medications after medications that make him feel like crap. Blood transfusions when his numbers get too low and explaining everything to everyone for the millionth time. Dealing with insurance companies and trying to figure out how to apply for disability - it's taken a toll on us both.
He is currently in the hospital at INOVA Fairfax, undergoing an intense round of chemotherapy and more testing to confirm if his Leukemia has progressed into Acute (AML). He will be in the hospital this time for 4 weeks. The end goal is a stem-cell transplant - which will be another huge battle later this summer.
In the meantime, while I try to hold our family together with bubble gum and toothpicks - we still have 2 young boys at home who need their father. And that is the driving force behind everything.
With every cancer story you'll see, comes great cost. And it's a shame we even have to do things like this when we're already dealing with enough but trying to figure out how to keep a roof over their heads at the same time is just a cherry on top of the pile of crap.
We do have amazing family and friends that are surrounding us daily with love, prayers, and taco bell - and for that I will always be grateful.
This GoFundMe is purely to benefit the insurance bills we will surely see any day now, and just life in general with cancer. Anything is appreciated.
