UPDATE FROM KELTEN: Thank you so much everyone who has supported me over the last year! My sister-in-law started this GoFundMe last year, and your kindness has meant the world to us.
After spending 21 days in the ICU and another 21 days in rehab, I was finally able to go home and begin my recovery. At first, I couldn't walk or talk very well and relied on a PEG tube for hydration and medication because my swallowing muscles were still weak from the stroke. After two months, I passed my swallow test and began eating normally again.
I completed eight months of speech and occupational therapy to continue to work on my balance and fine motor skills. Starting in October, I also went through three months of SRS radiation to treat the AVM in my brain stem that caused the stroke.
This February, I began eye therapy for double vision, which isn't covered by insurance. My optometrist expects it will take 8-10 months of treatment. Any help covering these costs would mean so much.
Thank you all again for your generosity and continued encouragement--it truly keeps me going.
----ORIGINAL----
Kelten and Carmen's lives were altered irrevocably when Kelten, a strong, healthy, 28-year-old, had an unexpected stroke due to a very rare brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Due to the stroke located in his brain stem, he experienced aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. He then developed Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (broken heart syndrome) and tension pneumothorax in his lung. He was life-flighted from Idaho Falls to Murray, where he is receiving extensive medical treatment.
As a young married couple, Kelten and his dear wife Carmen could use all the support they can get. Carmen is doing all she can to support the long recovery that Kelten has ahead of him.
