Hi y’all, we are friends of Kelsey’s, and we are setting up this fundraiser on her behalf.
Kelsey, 29, was born and raised in a small town in Texas and after attending Texas A&M for undergraduate studies, she moved out to Colorado for law school. She decided to begin her legal career in Denver and found her home with a wonderful small firm and has been tirelessly working as a litigation attorney representing small businesses and nonprofits. She is an avid cyclist, international traveler, and advocate.
After several weeks of chest pain, shortness of breath, and coughing, Kelsey ended up in the ER on May 16. A series of scans and tests done overnight unfortunately showed a sizeable tumor in her chest cavity, pressing on her heart and lungs. She was sent for a biopsy immediately. On May 31 the biopsy results came back and confirmed that Kelsey has large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Further scans showed the aggressive tumor was encapsulating all of the major arteries and veins in her chest, and complications began to quickly develop. After a week of visits in-and-out of the hospital due to the high risk Kelsey was at for blood clotting and stroke, she was sent to Presbyterian St. Luke’s to begin emergency chemotherapy.
After a PET scan to determine the extent of the spread of the cancer, it was determined to be in at least stage 3, potentially 4. Kelsey was immediately started on a vigorous chemotherapy treatment. On June 6, she began her first round of chemotherapy. Kelsey will be undergoing six rounds of chemotherapy, over the course of 18 weeks. Each round of chemotherapy will involve a full in patient stay at the hospital on a 24-hour chemotherapy drip for 5 straight days with around-the-clock monitoring. Kelsey has a long road with many unknowns ahead as doctors work to determine how her aggressive form of lymphoma will respond to treatment.
During this time, the medical costs of the treatment, along with lost wages from being on medical leave from work, and all the other many miscellaneous expenses are taking a substantial toll on Kelsey and her family. Any donations during this time are greatly appreciated, no matter the size. Every little bit will help Kelsey be able to afford the care she needs.
(Note: All funds donated are directly transferred to Kelsey's bank account.)
