Hello! I am trying to help my Sister raise some money for Medical Costs and Monthly bills.
Last fall she was hospitalized and underwent emergency surgery last fall due to a freak infection in her abdomen, specifically around her left fallopian tube, fusing it to her intestines. They cleaned out the infection and put her on very heavy antibiotics for a couple of weeks. The infection got better, but the antibiotics wreaked havoc on her body. She ended up with thrush in her mouth and a severe skin rash down in her groin area. She tried EVERYTHING. Nothing would calm it down. She tried everything over the counter AND even nystatin. Nothing worked.
Fast forward to the beginning of this year when she was finally able to be seen by her new OB/GYN. After the first glance at what she's been enduring, she knew right away that her skin condition wasn't actually something new per se but rather a major flare up of an autoimmune disease she did not know she had. Upon further reflection, she has probably had this her whole life but never had a significant flare up until the stress of the infection and surgery. That's at least our hypothesis.
She was immediately started on the gold standard treatment to get it under control. It was very effective in getting most of the flare up controlled and no longer visible however there's a very sensitive area that just does not want to respond to treatment. Her Dr is amazing and has taken time to research at home thinking of anything. She did additional tests to rule out anything else that could be contributing. She had a special medicine compounded to see if that could help. Nothing. Unfortunately she felt it was time to rule out the big C.
A few days ago she met with a GYN Oncologist. She was very nice and has scheduled surgery for next Thursday. She will undergo a pretty invasive biopsy and additional testing. Unfortunately, women with this autoimmune disease have a significantly higher chance of being diagnosed with cancer. It sucks. We are choosing to believe that even IF it doesn't go her way, it's just a temporary battle and she will be okay.
As if all of that wasn't enough to deal with, the medical bills this year have been devastating. Her family has struggled like they've never struggled before and right now we don't see an end in sight. Right now she should be focusing all her energy on getting healthy (and she is trying so hard! She is working with a dietician even as this diagnosis plus her type 2 DM requires 2 different diets) but unfortunately she is stressed out of her mind worried about losing her vehicle and keeping the lights on. Her family has 1 vehicle and it is used to transport her kids to and from school, therapy appointments for the kids (post adoption by my Sister and Brother In Law).
My Sister made the selfless decision to take 3 boys out of the Foster system and give them a safe home to live in. She does EVERYTHING for the 2 youngest (oldest now lives on his own) and she cannot go without a vehicle for them and herself and her own Dr appointments.
Her auto loan servicer has agreed to defer the August payment until the end of the loan but she must make the June payment by this coming Monday, August 19, 2024, or they will begin the repo process. Her payment is $628 and she doesn't have any of it as of today due to medical bills. She doesn't qualify for any type of assistance for rent or groceries.
Any help is appreciated and if you are unable to help, I would love it if you could at least share this to everyone that you know. I am scared to death to lose my Sister and it hurts me to see her in this much pain.
Thank you,
Kelly
