Support Kelly's Battle Against Terminal Cancer

A PERSONAL REQUEST FOR HELP

Dear friends,

I've never been one to share personal challenges publicly, but I find myself in a difficult position that requires me to ask for your help. In May, I was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal colorectal and peritoneal metastatic cancer. Additionally, it is incurable. As you can imagine, it has been a huge shock to me and my family.

I'm somewhat newly married, a mother to a wonderful adult daughter, and I've been blessed with a beautiful 7-month-old grandson -- my only grandchild. The thought of not being able to watch him grow up is one of the hardest parts of this journey.

I'm currently in the process of applying for disability retirement through both my federal job at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and through the Social Security Administration. But in the meantime, I find myself in a situation where I've run out of paid leave and need to ensure I can continue covering essential living expenses, like my mortgage and bills.

I hate to ask for help, but I'm reaching out today with a very specific request for any federal government employees who might be able to assist. If you are in a position to do so, I would be deeply grateful if you would consider donating a few hours of your paid leave through the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program. This program allows federal employees from any agency to transfer leave to employees in need, and I am eligible to receive leave donations at NOAA. Even a few hours would make a world of difference.

I know that times are tough for everyone, and I don't want to impose, but I also know that there are so many kind-hearted people out there who might be willing to help.
