Hello, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Kelli. I have quite a few chronic illnesses which because them, I had to get my colon taken out and have a permanent ileostomy bag. I went in on September 10th, 2024 for the scheduled surgery. I was told everything went well, and was discharged from the hospital with hesitation on September 13th. From the 13th to the 23rd, I was in consistent pain. I could not eat, there was no output for my ileostomy bag, and then throwing up liquids started. I told my home care nurses and the nurses at the hospital what was going on to which they told me to try different relief medications to get things moving. I was reluctant due to the pain and vomiting. Finally, the surgical team made an appointment for me to come in on September 23rd at 8:15am. I was swollen, in pain, and barely felt conscious. My surgeon immediately rushed me to the ER part of the hospital. I had a CT scan which showed a complete obstruction from my stomach to my stoma along with a bowel perforation. I had emergency surgery that day to which they emptied 3.5 liters of fluid from my small intestine and had to cut my abdomen open. My parents were told if we had waited one more day, I would’ve died. I woke up with staples down the middle of my abdomen, and was told to take a extra couple of weeks of leave from work. The next day, September 24th, I had a fever and went septic from the bacteria that came from the perforation. Everyday, I would stare at the ceiling in the hospital just waiting for it to be my turn to die. I started preparing speeches in my head for my family. I was finally discharged in the beginning of October but I still have consistent symptoms and pain. I consider myself to be lucky to be alive but I’m scared something is going to go wrong since I’m still not in the clear.
Me and my entire family have been effected by this entire situation and now, I am permanently scarred mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Right now, I am currently on an unpaid Leave of Absence through my job. I have exhausted all option. If you know me, you know I never ask for help since I have always been independent.
If you want (or if you can) please donate to help me with medical bills and monthly dues. I’d be forever grateful to all of you.
Thank you again for reading.
