A month ago, my sister's family left Iowa to pursue dreams of owning a home in Florida. They purchased a property that they had hoped to build up with fruit trees and gardens in a neighborhood that they fell in love with. Unfortunately, they were met with the harsh reality of what a hurricane can do. Shortly after the storm surge hit, flooding ravaged Kelli's neighborhood, with their home receiving over 5 feet of water!
They have lost everything...
The water that filled their home was a combination of bay water and sewage. Furniture has to be thrown out, floors torn up, drywall redone, and all appliances replaced. On top of that, they lost three vehicles; one was Kelli's work car, and the other two each belonged to my niece and nephew.
Right now, their immediate concern is making sure the kids are taken care of and feeling the least amount of stress and burden as possible.
They are currently homeless and down three vehicles, which has made the life of three working adults very challenging. I am reaching out for your help to help alleviate some of their financial burden while they seek secondary housing--it could be several months before they are able to return to their home. They did have flood insurance, but it takes weeks and even months to get everything filed and reimbursement received. Please consider chipping in to help my family recover from this devastating situation.
